#77: Confidence and joy in God (with Emma Mae Jenkins)
“Psalm 34 says that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and he saves the crushed in spirit. God doesn’t expect you to come to him with everything put together.
He knows everything you’ve been through and you can approach honestly, imperfectly and boldly.”
My guest on the show this week is YouTuber and Instagram personality, Emma Mae Jenkins. Emma and I talked about God meeting us where we are, finding our confidence in who God says we are, dealing with haters online, loving yourself and those who attack & demean you, and finding joy in difficult circumstances, even in eyebrow bullying (which we have both experienced!). She shared some beautiful thoughts from her new devotional, ALL CAPS YOU. Basically she’s utterly delightful.

Here’s the latest Puddcast B-Side, exploring themes of laughter and silliness and the value of everything, from our interview with Dave Connis. When Dave said, “Everything counts” something inside me exploded, or clarified, or whatever… it’s been big for me. Tryphena and I discuss finding joy in all things, redefining joy as a valuable part of serious work, and discerning what will and won’t bring joy. We riff on learning to see all the mundane aspects of our lives (especially as parents) not as surplus to the real work but as the real work, as much as our rest is also a valid part of the real work, because it’s all part of the whole life we’re living. We also touched on accepting our bodies, even as they age, and loads more as usual.
