Part of what took me so long to grapple with the problems the purity culture had caused was because my writing was such a huge part of my identity and my livelihood. I had to recognize that I wanted the glory, I wanted to be a best-selling author. And unfortunately, I went out with a message that had some real flaws which hurt people.
— Joshua Harris

If you were a Christian teenager in the late 90s or early 2000s there’s little chance you escaped the message of “I Kissed Dating Goodbye.” Twenty years on, author Joshua Harris has re-evaluated his message due to the fruit it brought out in people’s lives. Joshua and I discussed the purity culture, the positive and negative effects of encouraging abstinence, his role in the wounding people experienced, and what the church can do better to prevent these powerful fads in the future.
