The gift of prophecy is a helpful, edifying tool for the church. When we hear God’s heart for us, expressed through another flesh & blood person, it can encourage us, inspire us, sharpen our focus and help us course-correct when necessary. Something many of us struggle with is what to believe when a promise does not come to pass. Did we hear things wrong? Did we mess something up? Has our sin blocked God’s blessing in our lives? I think there are 3 things to consider.

You're not alone and everything is going to be OK

I met with a group of young Christians on the weekend to discuss the topic of loneliness. We each asked the question, "Where is Jesus when we feel lonely?" and I invited them to do a journaling exercise. We began by asking God to give us the name of someone we knew, who was lonely. Then we asked God what he would want that person to know. Matias got my name, and here’s what God told us both.

What to do with prophetic words

Why does God speak? Because God wants us to know love. All communication that comes from God is designed to draw us into relationship with the Trinity. Relationship is God's major purpose. For that reason, all prophecy is best interpreted as an invitation to learn more about the character of God and respond to it.

The ministry machine of the last era has sunk

God is in the business of upsetting church cultural tradition. We have permission to explore a new world with Christ, and anyone who ventures outside the four walls of traditional church will find that they are far from alone.
